Saving Flash files

The decision has been made. You have decided on one or more Flash files

from DATA BECKER, which you would like to integrate into your

homepage. You can save the file to your hard disk, which is currently

displayed in the preview window, by clicking the two disk symbols on the

left hand side beside the preview window.

You have the choice between two different file formats, *.swf and *.fla.

Which of the two formats you select for saving your file depends on what

you would like to do next with these files.

Flash Files – A Facelift for your Homepage

13

If you would like to insert the selected Flash file into an existing or new

homepage, the *.swf format (Shockwave Flash) will be the right choice.

*.swf files are finished Flash films, which can either be played in an

independent player (Flash Player) that you can download for free off the

Internet, or they can be integrated into a website.

400 Professional Animations

14

The second possible file format for saving the selected Flash files is the .fla,

format, which you should select if you wish to individually adapt your file,

e.g. in Flash 5.

However, before you insert the file into your homepage, the Flash file must

be saved and/or exported in *-swf format.

If you click on one of the two disk symbols, another window will open and

you will be asked to define the place where you wish to save the file to.

Select a folder, changing the file name if needed, and click
OK in order to

save the file to your hard disk.

The
Help button: If you are stuck

Are you having problems using DATA BECKER's Flash Files? No problem!

You will find all the necessary information under the Help button in order to

work problem-free with this software.

You will become familiarized with program functions and all you need to

know about Flash files - from the first steps of
How to use this program to a

small ABC on routine topics dealing with Flash files, to further

Flash Files – A Facelift for your Homepage

15

Furthermore, you will experience
DATA BECKER's Support for additional

questions regarding your software and how to get help for questions with

respect to Flash animations on the
Flashworker homepage in general.

The
Flash detection button contains a test program that needs to be installed

(or was already installed by your Internet browser), in order to run the Flash

plug-in necessary for viewing the included files.

Finally, you once again have the possibility to read the detailed Terms and

Conditions for 400 Professional Animations under the subcategory

.

Upon mouse contact: Direct help!

The direct help is the little helper who will be at your side, especially at the

beginning of your work with 400 Professional Animations.

400 Professional Animations

16

For example, as soon as you touch a button with your mouse while moving

over the program interface, a balloon help appears explaining what is behind

that button.

Direct help will be turned off if you deactivate
Show Help Text at the lower

right hand side of your page.

The
Trial button: Experience is the best

teacher

In order to implement DATA BECKER's 400 Professional Animations in

your homepage, you will require special software to process the Flash

format.

You can install and use two of the most common programs as trial versions

under the
Trial button: Macromedia Flash 5.0 as well as Macromedia

Dreamweaver 3.0.

You can test these programs including all their functions for thirty days free

of charge before deciding to purchase the complete version.

Flash Files – A Facelift for your Homepage

17

The installation of the trial version onto your hard disk is quite simple and

done in the twinkling of an eye:

First, click on the
Trial button. Both programs are offered for installation in

the Viewer. If you click on
Install Macromedia Flash 5 or Install

Macromedia Dreamweaver 3,

automatically onto your PC.

Enjoy testing these programs!

Flash: A facelift for your homepage

People who regularly surf the Internet have most certainly encountered flashbased

animations before. The variety of Flash elements is almost unlimited –

they can be in the form of a starting page for your website, the design of a

complete site, as a menu of a page built on Frames, as an animation, button,

lively logo or entertaining film.

What is Flash?

Flash is professional software used to create animation programs from the

software developer Macromedia.

This technology enables you to create Flash applications, apart from

animated films, which are based on interactions with the user or other

applications.

By mainly using vector graphics, the completed Flash films are compact

files, which are characterized by their flowing image and small file size.

Vector graphics are graphics, which, unlike a bitmap file, can be changed

freely in size without a loss in quality. Since vector graphics are also

Flash Files – A Facelift for your Homepage

19

independent from the resolution of the output device, their display will be of

the same quality irrespective of the output medium. This is how they can be

displayed perfectly on all monitor sizes and with any selected resolution.

Once a Flash film has been created, each user can play it with the same

quality on the monitor.

The Flash Player, which can be downloaded free of charge from the

Macromedia website, can play back files created in Macromedia Flash,

regardless of the fact whether the user has Macromedia Flash installed or

not.

Nowadays, the Flash Player is pre-installed on most new computers or it is

provided with the system software or the latest version of Internet browsers.

Once the Flash Player is installed, the user is able to view the Flash

animations on his/her own computer as an independent individual

application or as also as an integrated part of a homepage through an Internet

browser.

Due to their small file size, Flash files can be quickly downloaded from the

Internet.

400 Professional Animations

20

What possibilities does Flash present?

As you could see from the variety of categories in DATA BECKER's 400

Professional Animations, Macromedia Flash films can be created for a

variety of areas of applications.

The most common area of application of Flash files is animation. In order to

create an animation, you can combine Flash images in Macromedia and,

similar to a stage, arrange them on different levels, and finally animate them

or better yet, bring them to life with a timeline. The finished animation can

be saved in two different formats, which you already know from 400

Professional Animations: the *.fla and *.swf formats.

The file extension *.fla describes a working file created with Flash. This file

can be loaded for further editing in Macromedia Flash.

Flash Files – A Facelift for your Homepage

21

If you further edit a DATA BECKER Flash file or wish to adapt it to your

individual requirements, then first download the file using the disk symbol

marked
FLA onto your hard disk and then open it in Macromedia Flash.

The file extension *.swf (Shockwave Flash) describes the exported Flash

film which can easily be integrated into HTML files or can be played as a

freestanding application with the Flash Player.

In order to integrate the exported Flash films into your homepage, download

the films using the disk symbol marked
SWF onto your hard disk.

Flash Files bring new life to your homepage. Instead of using animated Gifs,

which are played in a little loop, or marquees, which, similar to a stock

market ticker run across the page, you will now be able to not only let entire

films run on your homepage but also to integrate homepage visitors

interactively.

400 Professional Animations

22

If you wish to emphasize interaction on your homepage, then you’ve struck

gold with Flash Files.

Apart from mouse followers, there are also Flash animations, which react to

a visitor's mouse click. For example, the pearl necklace in the following

illustration moves, if the homepage user clicks on it with his mouse.

Flash Files – A Facelift for your Homepage

23

Even buttons and entire menu bars become more attractive, if they are

accompanied by Flash animations. Your homepage will certainly stand out

from normal and average Internet pages.

Let's start your Flash career on the Internet with DATA BECKER's 400

Professional Animations so that a visit to your homepage will become a very

special adventure.

400 Professional Animations

24

A
nd action: More power through action

scripts

“And Action” will not only be the catchword in Cannes, where by now -

apart from the film festival - the “Cyber-Lion-Award” is awarded, where

only films are given an award which are based on Flash or similar

technologies.

The above-mentioned Flash files based on interaction with the user are based

on so-called Flash files. The website user will be integrated into the film that

is being played. A certain action is triggered by a mouse click or by pressing

a key on the keyboard, but in reality, the visitor will jump to a different

position in the finished film. As mentioned in the above-noted examples,

objects can be moved, further animation can be played or other actions be

can carried out.

These so-called action scripts are dependent on a trigger. For example, if a

user clicks on the middle button, as seen in the example, a further part of the

film will be started which displays the animation and the altered button.

Flash Files – A Facelift for your Homepage

25

Events that can trigger a script, i.e. start another sequence of the Flash film,

are the loading of film sequences (e.g. with pre-loaders), playing of a specific

sequence or reaching a specific image as well as clicking the mouse button or

pressing a key on the keyboard.

Actions, which are triggered by interaction with the homepage visitor,

include stopping or playing the Flash film, activating or deactivating the

sound, jumping within the film to another scene, loading of additional Flash

films and changing to another homepage (e.g. with interactive menus).

As you can see, the possibilities of using Flash files on your homepage are as

various as the contents you wish to publish on them.

And maybe very soon you will be able to greet your website visitors with a

pre-loader, which welcomes the users in an animated form.
